CHARACTER: CANON SECTION
NAME: Touya Kinomoto
AGE: 19
CANON: Cardcaptor Sakura

CANON HISTORY: Wiki here.
CANON PERSONALITY:
Touya Kinomoto is a strong, quiet, sometimes grumpy-seeming teenager who still is helpful, gentle, and considerate with the feeling of others, especially those who are weak or vulnerable. He is perceptive and caring, and he observes and hears far more than he lets on, unless he needs to act on it. For most things, he keeps his own counsel, and there are very, very few people he trusts with what is truly happening in his mind. In fact, we only know about three such - his father, Fujitaka; Kaho, a teacher he fell in love with; and Yukito, a classmate who became very close and important to him. Everyone else is kept at a careful arm's length, and sometimes even these three get silences (and Yukito outright asking if he has come across a subject he shouldn't be asking about). Touya is also excellent at his studies, and very good at just about any sport played in school.

One of the big reasons for his distance from others is that, like his mother, Touya is perceptive of the supernatural world of spirits and magic. He used to tell his little sister Sakura about the things he saw, and she grew terrified of ghosts which she couldn't see but definitely sensed. He was pretty young himself - their mother passed when Sakura was just three, and Touya nine - and he realized he had made a mistake, so he slowly closed himself off from talking about the things that filled up his reality. He still goes out to where there are concentrations of unsettled ghosts and spirits to try to help them finish what they have left undone so that they can move on to where they belong. Trying to make sure that they find peace when just about no-one else can do it for them.

With their father working hard to make ends meet, raising Sakura fell partially to Touya, and he takes that responsibility very seriously... while teasing her mercilessly. It was probably a teenager's way to express his affection without being embarrassed, and Sakura herself, while always reacting to his teasing, is aware that when it's absent, something is really very wrong. That said, Touya's attentiveness to Sakura causes Yukito to tease him that he has a sister complex... which is not far off the mark. He is extremely protective of her, both from dangers in what she does (which she insists on keeping a secret from him, even though she has many signs that he knows) and when it comes to her romantic life, mostly seen through his great dislike for Syaoran Li, a transfer student to her class who is at first antagonistic to her but that changes drastically as he gets to know Sakura's better. Touya's attitude towards the newcomer, however, doesn't improve significantly.

Another sign of his dedication to Sakura is the way he works all the time, part time jobs of any description, no matter how outlandish they are. Dressing up as a monster? No trouble. Bussing tables? He's there. Any part-time gig he can get his hands on, so that he can take care of his own expenses, his college tuition, and then help towards Sakura's college tuition. A bonus to all the jobs? He can keep an eye on her wherever she may turn out to be and have trouble at.

All in all, Touya is a young man whose focus is not so much on himself as on others, primarily (but not quite exclusively) his little sister. He is afraid of losing her as they lost their mother, of losing others that he loves too soon, too young, too unfinished. He's rarely afraid for himself - all of his fears are for others. (He is protective of his feelings, nearly shy about them, but that's because he knows he can make mistakes rather than because he is afraid, as such.) He expresses affection by teasing (seen with both Sakura and Yukito) and being very, very protective, often without the person aware of it, and it's difficult to mistake when he dislikes someone. He's not above picking fights with someone much younger than him, but only when he knows that the person can take it, as Syaoran Li can. And his contact with the world beyond what is easily seen and touched has left him different, setting him apart from most.

SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Physically, Touya is tall, athletic, and very fit. He is strong and fast, and he and Yukito generally can win at any sport they decide to compete in. The athleticism is inherited from his and Sakura's dad, and it goes for just about anything. Fujitaka himself mentions that Touya is a first-level black belt in karate.
Touya is also a very good student - despite his constant part-time jobs and his rotations of work around the house, his grades stay very high, and he has no trouble getting into college. He does have late night study sessions with Yukito when necessary, a sign that he puts effort into his school work, too.
He is also a more than decent cook.
All these are within what is challenging but still possible for a teenager to accomplish.

More interesting are Touya's magical abilities.
Since very young, he's been able to see, hear, and communicate with the spirits of the dead. He can also perceive and communicate with other spiritual/divine entities, as well as perceive things about others which are very much not visible (such as knowing the true shape of the Mirror card when she has taken on Sakura's appearance, or knowing about Yue even though Yukito doesn't know himself, or forcing even Eriol to take extra measures to conceal himself). He is also capable of intuiting at least some things about the future, especially when it comes to Sakura being in danger but not necessarily limited to it. And, though rarely seen, he seems to be able to negate some magical manifestations, such as stilling a whirlpool created by Watery.

All his magical power he willingly gives up to Yue, who, along with his alter ego Yukito, is close to vanishing because Sakura's magic is not yet mature enough to sustain him. The effect is overall weakness and fatigue, the powers having been an integral part of his life up to that point.

However, a couple of years later he seems to be developing magical powers again. It is not yet known what exactly they are, although it is likely that they may differ from the ones he used to have before. An addendum to the app will be made whenever any more information about his powers is made available, since that will affect regains.

CHARACTER: AU SECTION
AU NAME: Touya Kinomoto (no change)
AU AGE: 20
PHYSICAL DIFFERENCES: None.

AU HISTORY:
- Born on Feb 28, 1998, six years older than his sister.
- Moved to Recolle from Japan with his father's work a few years after Sakura was born, as their father was given an offer to lecture at a university overseas.
-Family includes/included his father (archaeologist and lecturer at the university, died mid 2016 in an accident) and younger sister who is fourteen.
- Mother was ill and died when Sakura was very young. Their mother taught Touya to play the piano.
- When his sister was adopted by Fai and Iwai in Recolle a few months later after their father passed away, they took Touya in, too. Fai and Iwai are now in NPC status.
- Touya has been working part-time jobs to make sure that even if Fai and Iwai change their mind, he'll be able to take care of Sakura; he had started before that to by a motorbike when he was sixteen, and kept going to save money up towards college tuition, but then it got way more intense when he had his sister to think of.
- When he was starting his junior year in high school, Yukito transferred into his class. At that time Touya was still somewhat heartbroken over an older girl who had left him, but he and Yukito hit it off well and became fast friends. Touya, with his various part-time jobs, actually figured out Yukito's DID before Yukito got around to telling him; since Touya was bringing Yue home some nights, Yukito ended up giving him a key to his and his grandparents' apartment. Touya and Yukito (and sort of Yue) started dating at the end of their senior year in high school.
- Very close with his sister. He does tease her mercilessly, but will make sure she has everything that she needs. They also still talk in Japanese whenever in private.
- Was classmates with Leon and greatly disliked him, which widened to Leon's cousin. Yes, he's making Xiaolang's life difficult.
- Still very good student and very good at sports. Likely on at least partial sports scholarship in college. Majoring in Chemistry currently.

--Revision additions--
- Touya was a preteen when his father relocated to Recolle, and he did not take it easily. He was uprooted from his environment and friends, going to a country speaking a language that he'd barely started learning. Middle school had him somewhat isolated because of being an outsider and a little gruff - already focused on his sister after their mother's death - but not entirely alone because of his proficiency in sports and his kindness.
- Touya spent a lot of time learning English properly, doing housework - considering his father working a lot - and keeping up with his studies. The more focused he got, the less he had time for things he considered frivolities or for enjoying himself. He did take part of all sports training that he could fit in his time schedule, but didn't feel like committing to any team.
- He didn't begin to open up properly until high school freshman, when there were enough new people in the class to make his being alien less setting him apart and more of an object of interest.
- By high school he was definitely a bit too mature/serious for his age and most of the people he got closer to were older, seniors or people he got in touch with on his part-time jobs. He had caught up somewhat, especially when it came to the language and his studies, so he had time to observe and turn to studying the world around him, not just academic material.
- His focus was already very much on others. While he knew he needed to work on himself to keep up, to achieve the objectives he set for himself, he considered himself of less import / deserving less attention of himself. What he could show/teach/do was a different matter altogether. He took his father as an example for that.
- He fell in love with an older girl/young woman when he was fifteen. For a while, she seemed to return his affections (he even upped the number of part-time jobs he took to save up and buy a motor bike to impress her), but then she moved away, breaking it off. He closed off romantically at that point for a good while, and more than a few girls were gently let down as a result. He still has the bike, though unless in a rush, he prefers his bicycle as a means of transport.
- If asked about his hobbies, he'd quote cooking and sports. He went for the swimming team late in high school (it meant that he could get extra training time at his own times, rather than depending on team work, and it helped getting part-time jobs as a life guard) and earned university scholarship with it.
- While he likes cooking, he didn't consider that as a career choice because to him that's something to regularly do (part-time gigs don't count) for people he cares about, not strangers.
- Touya did not allow himself much space to mourn for his father, mostly because he had responsibility to take care of - his sister - and stopping to feel the grief was not a luxury he had. Things eased up a little when Sakura and he were taken in, but the scars of being fully aware that anything and everything he relies on can be taken from him with little notice was gouged deep in his self. His mother, his homeland, his father - basically everything that he could get attached to is at risk, and that's the kind of mindset that he has. It does make him all the more intensely attentive to the people he has in his life, especially his sister and his best friend.
- Touya has grown into the kind of person who observes and knows, acting only when he finds it necessary; he's very much not an 'act now, think later' person. That doesn't mean he plays things safe - he's very much willing to put himself in danger if he knows it's necessary - but that few of his decisions are impulsive or unthought-through.
- Isn't sure yet whether he wants to go into teaching (like their father) or into practical science (research scientist, especially supporting archaeology, is definitely a factor; though he is aware that if by the time he graduates, the financial situation they're in thanks to Fai and Iwai has changed, he might go into forensics, as there is far too much demand for qualified people there).

AU PERSONALITY:
There aren't very great personality differences, other than the absence of supernatural perception/interactions. But Touya now has lost both his parents and is rather stuck abroad, even though he's lived years in the US. He is actually even more protective of Sakura, and, no, he did not just accept that she wouldn't have come home during the layer splitting, but there was nothing he could do, other than quietly freak out at Yukito.
Touya is still the often gruff guy you want to have near you / at your back when something unexpected starts going wrong. He'll catch you if you slip, listen to you when you're having unsolvable problems, and maybe even offer quiet advice, then pretend he did nothing out of the ordinary. He doesn't like bullies and will stand up to them, though few actually try to go for him. He still has a bit of a language barrier issue, though he's probably a bit better about that than Sakura; Touya still values his homeland and all that he's learned in and about it; he doesn't hate the US by any means - it's just not the home of his heart.
He still plays the piano. Usually when and where nobody, or nearly nobody, can hear him.
